On Saturday, 10/16/21, at about 2:15am, Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable Kareem Atkins was shot to death, and Deputies Darrell Garret and Juqaim Barthen were wounded, while working an extra security job at a Houston nightclub (45 Norte Bar and Lounge). According to media reports, Deputies Atkins and Garret had responded to a disturbance outside the club and were attempting to arrest a suspect when a second suspect with a rifle came around a car and opened fire, killing Deputy Atkins. Deputy Barthen heard the shots and immediately responded to the scene, where he was also shot. After the ambush, the suspect fled the scene. Authorities are currently looking for the shooter, believed to be a bearded, heavy set, Hispanic man in his early 20s. I am confident this coward will be apprehended in the near future - Nemo me impune lacessit.
Deputy Kareem Atkins, 30, had been with Precinct 4 since January 2019, and had recently returned to work from paternity leave after he and his wife had a baby. Deputy Atkins now leaves behind his wife and two children. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Deputy Kareem Atkins - Rest in Peace.
