I think most people would agree that the immigration policies of the Biden Administration have, so far, been a disaster. To help end the border chaos, President Biden and the Democratic Party must publicly condemn, and try to prevent, illegal immigration. Frankly, how hard is it to simply condemn violations of U.S. law? Instead, a vocal minority of the Democratic Party continues to push the radical rhetoric of "Abolish ICE", "Open Borders", and "Defund the Police", all of which undermines our border security and law enforcement efforts. Under President Biden, huge caravans of immigrants have illegally entered and remained in the U.S., thus encouraging future caravans. The most recent caravan arrived last week, when 15,000 Haitians marched on Del Rio, Texas. In response to that incident, former President Barack Obama commented that it is the natural tendency of Americans to want to help people in need. That said, Obama concluded, "At the same time, we’re a nation state. We have borders. The idea that we can just have open borders is something that … as a practical matter, is unsustainable.” Former President Obama, a moderate Democrat, advocated for immigration reform (not illegal immigration), and I fully support those efforts. Our elected officials need to remember that most voters support LEGAL, not ILLEGAL, immigration. If the Democratic Party fails to condemn and proactively prevent illegal immigration, our Texas Democratic candidates will suffer at the ballot box in November 2022. Last April, I commented on illegal immigration and our ongoing crisis at the U.S. / Mexico border. In that post, I included recommendations on how the Democratic Party should proactively address the issue. To review that blog post, please click on the link below.
UPDATE 10/5/21: More on the way:
Update 10/9/21: Wake up, my fellow Democrats. To represent the majority of our base, the Democratic Party must be led by moderate, mainstream officials. If we allow extreme, left-wing liberals (a relatively small portion of the Party) to lead, the Democratic Party will shrink. The more radical we get, the less support we will have (especially in Texas). To retain and grow our base, the Democratic Party must take positions supported by most Democratic voters and the general public. For more on this topic, please read the article below:
